PLAY:
While A1 is dribbling in
A's backcourt, the ball legally touches B2's leg, causing it to bounce
away from A1. A1 recovers the ball with two hands and starts a new
dribble. What do you as an official do in this situation?
a) Begin a new 10 second backcourt count
b) Continue the 10 second backcourt count
c) Blow the whistle for a double dribble violation
d) Allow play to continue as the dribble ended when the
ball legally touched B2
e) Blow the whistle for a kicking violation on B2.
Which answer(s) are correct?
11-24-07 POTW ANSWER
The correct answers for the 11-24-2007 POTW are A & C.
According to rule 4 section 42 article 5, a throw in ends when the
passed ball touches, or is legally touched by, another player who is
either inbounds or out of bounds, except as in 7-5-7. An AP throw-in
opportunity is lost when according to rule 6 section 4 article 5
the throw-in team violates.
Therefore A is correct as the ball has been touched legally, B is not
correct because the ball DOES NOT have to be controlled, C is correct because if
the throw-in team violates the AP throw-in ends and D is not correct because a
violation by the non-throw-in team will not end the AP throw-in.
PLAY: When does an Alternating Possession
Throw-in end?
a) When the passed ball legally touches a
player inbounds
b) When the passed ball is controlled by an
inbounds player
c) When the throw-in team violates
d) When the non-throw-in team violates

We are NOT penalizing wearing of
illegal uniforms with technical fouls per NFHS rules. The IHSA has
mandated this and we are REQUIRED however to send in a Special Report to
the IHSA of any such uniforms.
I will keep you posted if and when
the IHSA changes this policy.

Meeting Schedule
Based upon the feedback I received, the following is the
schedule of meetings for our upcoming basketball season. These dates are
still subject to approval from Moline High School but put them in your
book and if anything changes it will be posted.
All meetings will be at Moline High School in room
B131 and start at 6:30 this year, unless otherwise noted.
